July 28, 2025

PastureThe Organic Farmer Research Network is proud to host four Fall Farmer Exchanges. In collaboration with OEFFA’s Organic Grain Growers Chapter, our first farm tour, “Organic Grain Grower Advances in Weed & Manure Management” will be held at John Jacobs & Son in Napoleon, Ohio on August 1. Discussions will focus on equipment and the need for more on-farm research. This tour is open to the public.

Woodlyn Acres Farm in Dalton, Ohio will hold our second farm tour, “Plow-Down vs. Harvest of Leguminous Cover Crops” on August 27. A group of farmers will share what they have discovered through their farmer-led research project, and will discuss the effects of other conservation practices they have utilized. Registration for this tour is encouraged to help with planning.

Rose Hill Farm in Roseville, Ohio will hold our third farm tour, “Managing Cucurbit Pests with Cover Crops” on September 3. Discussions will focus on the effects cover crop use has on this operation’s weed management and how it impacts soil health. Registration for this tour is limited.

In collaboration with Rural Action, Blue Owl Hollow in Newark, Ohio will host our fourth farm tour of the season, “On-Farm Mushroom Spawn Production Trial” on October 16. The farm owners and educators from Rural Action Conversation will lead a Technical Woods Walk on forest farming from 12-3 p.m. From 4-6:30 p.m., participants can join a demonstration and discussion about a current research project trialing on-farm mushroom spawn production. Registration for this tour is limited; carpooling is strongly encouraged!

The Organic Farmer Researcher Network is a collaborative effort facilitated by Central State University, the Ohio Ecological Food and Farming Association, and The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.
